July Update: PlayStation 6 and PlayStation Portable future visions

 The recent PlayStation video about the "simulated" technology in development, discussed between AMD and Sony engineers that will power the PlayStation 6 was interesting from a geek point of view. But from a gameplay perspective, there is - IMO - no need for a PlayStation 6 for another few years. Especially with the limp Xbox is-it-isn't-it launch .  July 2026 Update : Sony managed a cannon-fire sized self-inflicted injury by announcing the end of physical releases across the end of the PS5 era and the launch of the PS6. PlayStation Portal back in Midnight Black

PlayStation continues to beaver away with its paint brushes and limited palette of paints, dropping a new Midnight Black range of DualSense Edge, Portal and Pulse audio gear. 

Available from February 20th, they look mean and moody, and (I think) a bit cooler than the original white Portal model, and are less likely to discolour or leave noticeable scratches.

These were rumoured last November, so are no real surprise and barely registered among the rash of CES Sony movie-of-the-game announcements. But they'll be good to own come the spring and as the feature set for the Portal continues to expand with cloud gaming out in beta and more features likely.

Here's hoping they get round to adding arty add-on rear panels/shells for the big games, so we can think back to the glory days of endless PlayStation Portable models adorned with stylish decals and imagery!
