A Freedom Wars remaster today, and Sega's House of the Dead 2 in a few months! Not a bad start to the year for nostalgic old me. But one that comes with a note of caution given the sluggish-control fest that was the House of the Dead remake on Switch a few years back, and slow loading, even with updates.
Even though the update gives lie to one of the many silly one liners from HotD2, "Remember, there's no such thing as a second chance!" It should be welcomed as one of the near-perfect lightgun games, unless someone wants to bring HotD5 Scarlet Dawn out of my local beachfront arcade into the dining room.
But, House of the Dead 2 Remake is coming to all formats from Forever Entertainment, so one of them should be able to keep up with the Dreamcast's light gun or the Wii's Wiimotes that were great fun for the whole family or gang to play with.
And that's why HotD2 has such a fond place in my heart. One of the best Friday night post-pub games a flatshare could enjoy - one we still enjoy on Wii from time to time!
With spiced-up visuals and music across PlayStation, Switch Steam and other platforms, the remake comes with the classic modes, plus boss and training options to get your two "dogs of the AMS" up to speed for the maximum effort required to reach the end.
Arriving in Spring, there's a Steam page with some basic info and imagery, but whatever platform I buy it on, I can't wait for it to light up my big-screen, as I'm not too sure how well it'll translate to remote play or smaller screens.
