Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. I only really discovered the console world in the late 90s, which is when I got my very first Vectrex. Of course, I had seen it in stores back in 1983, but at that time it was far too expensive for me.  Today, I own five Vectrex systems at home. Vector-based games ...

Lenovo and Valve waving new handheld gaming devices at CES

Lenovo's Legion range has been kicking around for a few years now, with laptops and handhelds for the Windows gaming market. By inviting Valve to their big show at 2025's launch mega-event CES, it looks like a SteamOS version is on the way, with new innards powered by another guest, AMD, at an event called,  "Lenovo Legion x AMD: The Future of Gaming Handhelds.”

Update: And the largely predictable came to pass with Lenovo showing off the Legion Go S and 2 models for Steam users. The affordable (starting at $499) Legion Go S hits the shelves in May, packing an 8″ Wide Ultra Extended Graphics Array (WUXGA) 16:10 touchscreen with 120Hz PureSight.

Under the shell are choices of an AMD Ryzen Z2 Go processor or AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor,  supported by a 55.5Whr battery. The 2 model will arrive later and packs in a Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor for more cutting edge performance, and likely a price tag to match.

Also from CES:

Original piece: Which is kind of navel-gazing given the new models tipping up in the last month alone including the MSI  Claw, restyled Steam Decks, and the latest high-end Ayaneo models. And it happily ignores the multi-million selling Switch and PlayStation Portal, and their successors. They will wipe the floor with any sales figures from the likes of Alienware, ASUS Rog and other players who seem to be doing this for the kudos, rather than mass market.

Update: Images are already out c/o notorious leaker Evan Blass showing off a curvier device...

Adding a little gusto to proceedings, Jason Ronald, the head of Microsoft's next-generation Xbox efforts including their handheld will be along for the show. Which is a nice little cabal of gaming engineering talent who wouldn't be turning up unless something biggish was on show.

And let's face it, the current Lenovo Legion Go is an unattractive brick of a device, overpriced at around £650, and dating back to 2023, so it definitely needs an upgrade.

All will be revealed in a few weeks, and I'm more than prepared to be underwhelmed, whatever the power inside, unless it really offers a change to the market dynamics, which it won't.
