Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. I only really discovered the console world in the late 90s, which is when I got my very first Vectrex. Of course, I had seen it in stores back in 1983, but at that time it was far too expensive for me.  Today, I own five Vectrex systems at home. Vector-based games ...

Atari GameStation Go packs in the retro controls for CES launch

In a world of me-too retro consoles, Atari is trying something a little different dragging back the numeric keypad into the new GameStation Go handheld, set for a formal reveal at CES this week. Also packing triggers, a dial control and what looks like a trackball, it would be the ultimate way to play the many Atari games that hit the arcades with these unique control features.

Update: The GamesStation will play some 200 games from the 8- and 16bit eras, but no Lynx, Jaguar or ST titles. And it won't be out until Q3 this year, which is a tad depressing. Still, it looks good, with an practical UI, check out a preview hands-on video from CES here

I guess the keypad could also lend support to Atari Jaguar games, which are a bit of a mare to play on other emulator systems. And hopefully all those gimmicks don't make this over-priced and ignored by the market, as it has the potential to be a great little unit for retro gamers and those still rediscovering the world of Atari thanks to the likes of the Atari 50 collection

Will update with pricing and games details when the glitz and gloss of CES clears to reveal this and all the other fun hardware that will undoubtably be revealed. Certainly, this has more appeal than the endless slabs of raw power slated from brands like Lenovo's Legion range of handhelds.
