Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. I only really discovered the console world in the late 90s, which is when I got my very first Vectrex. Of course, I had seen it in stores back in 1983, but at that time it was far too expensive for me.  Today, I own five Vectrex systems at home. Vector-based games ...

Toaplan Arcade Collection 4 heads to Evercade

Toaplan is doing a lot of the heavy lifting for Evercade this winter, with Collection 3 coming November, and Toaplan Arcade 4 just announced for December. Offering a solid mix of shooting, fighting and platforming, the latest batch from the last few years of the Japanese coin-op master's operation features:

  • Snow Bros. 2: With New Elves
  • Dogyuun
  • Grind Stormer
  • Knuckle Bash
  • Pipi and Bibi's
  • Sky Shark (console port of Flying Shark)

With the delayed Tomb Raider-badged Evercade hardware on the way, plus the new table top units, there should be plenty of new owners looking for fresh carts to slap into whatever model they own Those and the existing army of Evercade retro console and arcade with shelves full of physical releases should make it another good festive season for the retro brand.

Toaplan Arcade 4 Evercade

Upping the pace slightly, you can already pre-order Toaplan Arcade Collection 4 from most places including Amazon with a release date listed as the 12th December.

While Toaplan Collection 1 is probably the highlight of this series, this smallish list of games should still deliver plenty of punch, even though the brand went bust in the mid-90s after Snow Bros 2 arrived in arcades. Guessing that limits the chances of a Toaplan 5.
