Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. I only really discovered the console world in the late 90s, which is when I got my very first Vectrex. Of course, I had seen it in stores back in 1983, but at that time it was far too expensive for me.  Today, I own five Vectrex systems at home. Vector-based games ...

Tomb Raider PlayStation trilogy vaults onto Evercade's first Giga Cart

The first Giga Cart collection for the Evercade has officially been announced. The Tomb Raider Cartridge Collection with Crystal Dynamics (wot woz Eidos), features the first three Tomb Raider games. These are presumably the PlayStation versions, with Tomb Raider, Tomb Raider II Starring Lara Croft, and Tomb Raider III: Adventures of Lara Croft bringing their polygonal exploits for a new generation of players in their original format.

Update, you can now pre-order the EXP-R here on Amazon and the VS-R here, both shipping for the start of August.

To ram home the joys of nostalgic gaming, there' a full-colour manual and the cart is compatible with all Evercades including the new R models, as the mystery pack-in cart. They will also work on the diminuitive HyperMegaTech! Super Pocket devices.

Releasing in July, and available to pre-order April 30, Tomb Raider marks a sort-of fourth-generation of Evercade releases. After the 8- and 16-bit consoles, computer and arcade titles, we're now moving firmly into 32- and 64-bit territory, after a bit of early tinkering with the likes of some smaller PlayStation games and N64's Glover.

The arrival of Tomb Raider also gives the Evercade platform its first gaming icon in Lara Croft, who continues to drive sales to this day, some 28 years after her first outing. The original games from Derby's Core Design were published by EIDOS and while the Remastered collection came out a couple of months ago, the originals will always warm the resting places of retro gamers.
