July Update: PlayStation 6 and PlayStation Portable future visions

The recent PlayStation video about the "simulated" technology in development, discussed between AMD and Sony engineers that will power the PlayStation 6 was interesting from a geek point of view. But from a gameplay perspective, there is - IMO - no need for a PlayStation 6 for another few years. Especially with the limp Xbox is-it-isn't-it launch .  July 2026 Update : Sony managed a cannon-fire sized self-inflicted injury by announcing the end of physical releases across the end of the PS5 era and the launch of the PS6. Due to lack of sales (only 7 titles have passed the 100,000 mark in the last year) and economics, it still doesn't matter to PlayStation owners, collectors are stores, who can now only sell digital codes in a box.  June 2026 Update : The latest snippet of gossip for Sony's next-gen systems is a modular/external drive that will connect to both devices. Curse of the Sea Rats infests the Switch

Fed up for cats and dogs as gaming heroes? Enter the rat, even if it is the year of the rabbit! Curse of the Sea Rats, developed by Petoons and published by PQube, is a hand-animated (looks not to far off the excellent Sir Eatsalot), Metroidvania-style adventure. It features a non-linear world, full of action and platforming, secrets and challenging bosses.

Curse of the Sea Rats sees four prisoners of the British Empire, including Bussa, a rebel ex-slave above, transformed into rats by a notorious pirate witch, Flora Burn. To regain human form, they must work together and fight many dangerous bosses, uncover the secrets of the vast Irish coast, and ultimately capture the witch who cursed them.

Typically, players must unlock unique abilities to access many parts of the game, and having raved about the likes of Axiom Verge, Chasm and TimeSpinner on the Vita, this looks like a game to spend some quality time with. Check out the new boss trailer for a massive roster of great-looking villains...

Physical editions are up for pre-order and the Curse of the Sea Rats releases on 6th April on Switch, PlayStation and Xbox. Also, great art makes for a brilliant press kit, such a rare thing in today's gaming world!
