PlayStation 6 and PlayStation Portable future visions

The recent PlayStation video about the "simulated" technology in development, discussed between AMD and Sony engineers that will power the PlayStation 6 was interesting from a geek point of view. But from a gameplay perspective, there is - IMO - no need for a PlayStation 6 for another few years. Especially with the limp Xbox is-it-isn't-it launch .  April 2026 Update:  Compatibility with PS5 and PS4 games seems to be locked-in, as anything the PS6 full fat hardware the portable versions should be able to do as well, with near-invisible trade-offs at the silicon level.  Prices are firming up too with estimates around the PlayStation 6 handheld at between $500 to $700 and a PlayStation 6 at $700 to $1,000, depending on the deepening silicon crisis and Sony's budgeting wizards.  Only a few developers around the world could afford to take advantage of it for AAA+ budget games. Danganronpa series sold over 5 million units, 10th anniversary event incoming

And they say crime never pays! With the 10th anniversary celebration just around the corner, Spike Chunsoft announced that as of the end of September 2021, cumulative shipments of the Danganronpa series, including...

  • Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc (trailer),
  • Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair (trailer),
  • Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls (review),
  • Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony (review)

... have now surpassed over 5 million units worldwide.

A 10th anniversary collectors' edition is coming to the Switch in December with the three main titles and Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp, a boardgame bonus title with all-new scenes and interactions between characters.

Spike mentions that around 3 million sales were on PC leaving around 2 million across PSP and Vita, not bad for a series of twisted murder games. Since the original release of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc for PlayStation Portable on November 25, 2010, in Japan, three main titles and one spin-off title have been released and spawned TV anime, manga, novels, popular merchandise, and various collaboration and live events.

For the anniversary, a live show is planned in Japan, called the Danganronpa 10th Anniversary: Ultimate Class Reunion on on Saturday, November 27, 2021, with two ticketed showings to work around time zones.

It will take a look back across ten years of Danganronpa history with musical performances live-streamed from the Tokorozawa Sakura Town Japan Pavilion in Saitama, Japan.
