The recent PlayStation video about the "simulated" technology in development between AMD and Sony engineers that will power the PlayStation 6 was interesting from a geek point of view. But from a gameplay perspective, there is - IMO - no need for a PlayStation 6 for another few years. Especially with the limp Xbox is-it-isn't-it launch . April 2026 Update: Compatibility with PS5 and PS4 games seems to be locked-in, as anything the PS6 full fat hardware the portable versions should be able to do as well, with near-invisible trade-offs at the silicon level. Prices are firming up too with estimates around the PlayStation 6 handheld at between $500 to $700 and a PlayStation 6 at $700 to $1,000, depending on the deepening silicon crisis and Sony's budgeting wizards. Only a few developers around the world could afford to take advantage of it for AAA+ budget games. Everyone else is still barely cutting the skin of the PS5's power, and most western smaller/indie o...

After much is it/isn't it real? There's physical proof that developer/publisher Nicalis in some form got Vita physical copies produced of the excellent The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth According to the story, the lucky shopper (video game collector Cyberpunk Electronics) found a Sony pre-production/marketing copy that an employee had dumped as part of a job lot in a second-hand store.
Binding of Isaac Rebirth Physical is verified real now. The cart number is PCSE-01009 and the game version is 1.0. Curious to see what vita experts opinions are on this find. #Vita#PlayStation#Nicalispic.twitter.com/7e6mNIEu23
Binding of Isaac was a hit Steam roguelike game that became a must-have Vita indie, ported and improved by Nicalis and the original developer Ed McMillen (of Super Meat Boy fame, which ironically just got its physical release from Limited Run).
Alongside the likes of golden-age classics including Spelunky, TimeSpinner, Bastion, Fez and others, it helped the Vita gain recognition as an indie machines as mainstream publisher development tailed off.
There's also video proof if you are still not convinced...
So, it exists, but did Nicalis ever get a full production run, and if so where are they? Nicalis could be playing a marketing coup, planning to sell the last ever Vita physical at exorbitant prices, or there are only a few copies in the world, creating a scammer's paradise and a goldmine for a lucky few?
It would be good of Nicalis to let the world know, before their reputation is tarnished, and it is probably a good story to tell.
Nicalis teased the release a few times, as recently as 2018 iirc, and even the 3DS version was launched earlier this year as that handheld's last physical, so the company does have form. Ironically, McMillen's latest game, The End is Nigh was also listed for the Vita at some point, but never
Either way, it begs the question what other titles nearly made it out the gate. Nicalis was also supposed to bring 1001 Spikes, but plenty of other projects must have been nixed when Sony shut production or to typical developer published issues.
