June Update: PlayStation 6 and PlayStation Portable future visions

The recent PlayStation video about the "simulated" technology in development, discussed between AMD and Sony engineers that will power the PlayStation 6 was interesting from a geek point of view. But from a gameplay perspective, there is - IMO - no need for a PlayStation 6 for another few years. Especially with the limp Xbox is-it-isn't-it launch .  June 2026 Update : The latest snippet of gossip for Sony's next-gen systems is a modular/external drive that will connect to both devices. Allowing installation on the portable of physical games, and reducing the cost of the PS6 by making the Blu-ray an accessory (like the PS5 Slim).  I prefer the idea of a dedicated dock on the PS6 that connects the next Portable to your entire PSN library, and they'd better make it work as an extra controller, but I'm sure there are practical benefits to the extra drive.   That should also boost sales of PS4 and PS5 physical games, especially on the second-hand market, as folk...

Hidden Trap presents the Retro Pixel Set

As the Vita approaches the end of the end, the natural move for publishers and developers is to release bundles and compilations to move older games to the front of the store (if the Vita store ever gets updated again). Hidden Trap has taken the leap with a collection of pixel hits in the Retro Pixel Set, including: Ice Cream Surfer, A Hole New World, Dungeon Plus and Ghoul Boy with Super Skelemania for PS4 owners.

It is out now on EU PSN (can't see it on the Vita store but is on the web version) for £15.49 with a US release on the 28th January. These games are relatively recent releases, hope a few more publishers go this route, and we soon see some of the older Vita games from way back making a comeback (look at all the sports and smaller arcade titles from 2012/13 that deserve some fresh love).

What would you like to see reignite some interest? I'd still love to play PSP GripShift again, Pure Chess and Hustle Kings Pool, and perhaps DLC complete versions of MotorStorm RC, Ragnarok or Ridge Racer?

Currently playing on my Vita/PS3/PS4/PS5
