Lilac 0 slices hard on Steam

If you're a fan of retro shooters, check out Lilac 0, new to Steam and a shmup that'd I'd hope will stomp over to consoles. Take one knackered old automated world and a samurai hero trying to bring some order, and you have the background for some impressive retro-pixel love.

The official story sees the machine world of Molybdion which has fallen into disarray. As Nidhogg (giant metal dragon-type-thing) eats the root of the planet, unending wars rage on the surface!

To combat this mance our samurai hero Rairakku has to slice his way through hordes of metallic foes across five frantic levels, to defeat the fearsome bosses, and dodge countless bullets.

The ancient warrior and blade-wielding automaton is equipped with a scan ability that targets enemies and slows down his movement for greater precision. He can also dash-slice (sounds a bit like ScourgeBringer), a move that renders him momentarily invulnerable and allows him to cut enemies into pieces.

Even from the stills, it looks highly kinetic and exciting, with solo-dev Victor Pouderoux bringing to life a world of stunning metallic hardcore gaming. And the trailer backs that up with angsty chiptunes from Withered Media.

Lilac 0 is under £10 on Steam, and features three difficulty modes, online leaderboards, Tate display for rotatable monitors and some smart-looking CRT effects.

Currently playing on my Vita/PS3/PS4/PS5
