July Update: PlayStation 6 and PlayStation Portable future visions

The recent PlayStation video about the "simulated" technology in development, discussed between AMD and Sony engineers that will power the PlayStation 6 was interesting from a geek point of view. But from a gameplay perspective, there is - IMO - no need for a PlayStation 6 for another few years. Especially with the limp Xbox is-it-isn't-it launch .  July 2026 Update : Sony managed a cannon-fire sized self-inflicted injury by announcing the end of physical releases across the end of the PS5 era and the launch of the PS6. Due to lack of sales (only 7 titles have passed the 100,000 mark in the last year) and economics, it still doesn't matter to PlayStation owners, collectors are stores, who can now only sell digital codes in a box.  June 2026 Update : The latest snippet of gossip for Sony's next-gen systems is a modular/external drive that will connect to both devices. Xbox Comes to the Vita via Cloud Gaming

Browse Twitter or YouTube and the Vita is suddenly in the news again, thanks to a homebrew app that provides access to Xbox cloud streaming games. Yep, team blue and team green running on the same box thanks to the power of the cloud.

As Spawn Wave puts it, the Vita should not be doing this in 2026! I've added their video below as it provides a high quality guide to installing for new homebrewers, and some cool demos in action.

Remember this is streaming, and the Vita's ancient WiFi stack can go wobbly even with a PS4 in the same room, so your streaming mileage may vary with Microsoft's servers (and you need that Game Pass account to access the titles).

That said, the chance to play the original Halo and many other titles on the go with the minimum of fuss is a great addition to the Vita's legendary roster.

Imagine if MS caved in and added an official streaming app for the PlayStation Portal rather than relying on those £600(ish-TBC) streaming portables like the upcoming Lenovo C700? After all portable gaming was all about lower-cost fun compared to full-fat consoles portable monsters like the Xbox Ally and other devices.

Currently playing on my Vita/PS3/PS4/PS5
