PlayStation 6 and PlayStation Portable future visions

The recent PlayStation video about the "simulated" technology in development, discussed between AMD and Sony engineers that will power the PlayStation 6 was interesting from a geek point of view. But from a gameplay perspective, there is - IMO - no need for a PlayStation 6 for another few years. Especially with the limp Xbox is-it-isn't-it launch .  April 2026 Update:  Compatibility with PS5 and PS4 games seems to be locked-in, as anything the PS6 full fat hardware the portable versions should be able to do as well, with near-invisible trade-offs at the silicon level.  Prices are firming up too with estimates around the PlayStation 6 handheld at between $500 to $700 and a PlayStation 6 at $700 to $1,000, depending on the deepening silicon crisis and Sony's budgeting wizards.  Only a few developers around the world could afford to take advantage of it for AAA+ budget games. Xbox Ally X20 bundle packs in OLED screen and AR glasses for Big Little Gaming

A year on from Microsoft's original launch, the portable Xbox, aka the Republic of Gamers (ROG) Xbox Ally gets a new X20 bundle today. Offering a HDR OLED display and XReal Gaming AR Glasses it supports medium-small or super-large screen gaming on the go.

The new screen packs in a 7.4-inch Nebula HDR Display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 1,400 nits peak brightness, VESA Display HDR 1000 certification, Dolby Vision support, FreeSync Premium Pro, and an ultra-fast 0.2ms response time.

But, with competition in the portable over-priced gadget from the new Claw 8 EX AI+ (also, no price yet) packing an Intel Arc G3 Extreme processor and its own Xbox Mode, the market for the Ally is being squeezed further.

The new Ally model lives within a translucent black chassis featuring a vibrant gold internal structure, running an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor.

Released as part of ROG's 20th birthday, it looks meaty and powerful, but with no word of a price, and hardware costs shooting up recently, I'm guessing this won't be a steal wherever it hits store shelves.
