July Update: PlayStation 6 and PlayStation Portable future visions

The recent PlayStation video about the "simulated" technology in development, discussed between AMD and Sony engineers that will power the PlayStation 6 was interesting from a geek point of view. But from a gameplay perspective, there is - IMO - no need for a PlayStation 6 for another few years. Especially with the limp Xbox is-it-isn't-it launch .  July 2026 Update : Sony managed a cannon-fire sized self-inflicted injury by announcing the end of physical releases across the end of the PS5 era and the launch of the PS6. Xbox Ally X20 bundle packs in OLED screen and AR glasses for Big Little Gaming

A year on from Microsoft's original launch, the portable Xbox, aka the Republic of Gamers (ROG) Xbox Ally gets a new X20 bundle today. Offering a HDR OLED display and XReal Gaming AR Glasses it supports medium-small or super-large screen gaming on the go.

The new screen packs in a 7.4-inch Nebula HDR Display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 1,400 nits peak brightness, VESA Display HDR 1000 certification, Dolby Vision support, FreeSync Premium Pro, and an ultra-fast 0.2ms response time.

But, with competition in the portable over-priced gadget from the new Claw 8 EX AI+ (also, no price yet) packing an Intel Arc G3 Extreme processor and its own Xbox Mode, the market for the Ally is being squeezed further.

The new Ally model lives within a translucent black chassis featuring a vibrant gold internal structure, running an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor.

Released as part of ROG's 20th birthday, it looks meaty and powerful, but with no word of a price, and hardware costs shooting up recently, I'm guessing this won't be a steal wherever it hits store shelves.
