Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. I only really discovered the console world in the late 90s, which is when I got my very first Vectrex. Of course, I had seen it in stores back in 1983, but at that time it was far too expensive for me.  Today, I own five Vectrex systems at home. Vector-based games ...

Evercade showcase chock full of games and Super Pockets

Having teased a NeoGeo tie-up last year, the first news out of Evercade's spring showcase wasn't much of a surprise, a fun-packed cart of stalwarts from the super-expensive arcade/console brand including Metal Slug, King of Fighters, Magician Lord and more.

Update: Pre-orders live here

More NeoGeo carts are promised over the rest of this and next year, if your favourites aren't on the first cart. Watch a rerun of the 10-minute showcase here

What is a surprise was the Super Pocket mini-handheld in super-stylish black and gold, definitely grabbing that one. Or a limited edition red MVS model, with a production run of just 3,000 units, and exclusive to the Funstock store (from 11AM UK time, April 1st).

Also on the Super Pocket front is a Data East model, bringing the content from the Data East arcade carts over to a gorgeous golden/blue model. It features the likes of BurgerTime, Bad Dudes vs. Dragon Ninja, BreakThru and a host of other titles that will bring a nostalgic tear to the 10p-a-game crew.

Back to the carts and Evercade is revving up for 2025 with a 32-bit (PlayStation) console collection from Gremlin Graphics featuring shooters Loaded and Reloaded, Strategy game Hogs of War, and racer Buggy. None really ring any bells, but that's the fun of discovery with Evercade.

Finally, and I guess we file this under the quirky banner, Evercade announced a mixed collection of arcade games under the title Windjammers, Karnov & Friends. Those friends being Atomic Runner Chelnov, Rohga: Armor Force and Vapor Trail: Hyper Offence Formation. As this is an odd bag, just check out the video...

Most of this lot is shipping in June/July with pre-orders going live now or very soon. I'm off to update the Evercade release list, I may be some time!
