Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. I only really discovered the console world in the late 90s, which is when I got my very first Vectrex. Of course, I had seen it in stores back in 1983, but at that time it was far too expensive for me.  Today, I own five Vectrex systems at home. Vector-based games ...

NeoGeo blasts on to Evercade in 2025

Evercade has played a crafty hand with its announcements over the year, and leaves 2024 with a neat teaser for the coming year.

The retro-brand's latest collaboration aims to bring some of the "most revered" arcade names to Evercade, with SNK Corporation, creators of the NeoGeo arcade and home system. There's still plenty of excitement around these titles, as when WindJammers dropped on PS4/Vita in 2017.

And some NeoGeo games aren't that old, with the last release only 20 years ago with 2004's Samurai Shodown V Special ushering the platform off into the sunset.

At this point, all we have is the teaser image above, but its not hard to imagine the likes of the Metal Slug series, King of Fighters, Fatal Fury (still rolling along with City of the Wolves due out in 2025) and oddities like Cyber-Lip plus a host of sports games making their way to Evercade hardware.

I remember the unaffordability of the original hardware, and the huge size of the physical NeoGeo carts and their rampant capacity, so I hope the Giga carts are put to good use, and we're not fed one or two NeoGeo titles per cart. If you can't wait a NEOGEO Mini International Edition arcade unit is available with 40 titles built in for £80.
