PSP2, Switch 2 and an Xbox handheld... a brighter portable future?

Monty Mole digs his way from 8-bit to the Switch

Eight-bit hero Monty Mole from Gremlin Graphics was one of the many cute characters adventuring away in the formative days of computer games. Alongside Miner Willy, Kokotoni Wilf, Chuckie Egg and Codemasters' Dizzy, he would pop up from time to time with a new platform adventure on the Spectrum and C64.

The new Switch Monty Mole Collection, by a very different Imagine Software company and Pixel Games, brings back the three main releases, plus a couple of goodies from the vaults, all for £6.99 on the UK eShop:

  • Wanted! Monty Mole
  • Monty on the Run
  • Auf Wiedersehen Monty.
  • Moley Christmas (a cover tape freebie)
  • Sam Stoat: Safebreaker (a solo spin-off)

The games look and play in their original format, but have some modern trimmings including a 10-second rewind, screen filters and selectable difficulty.

Imagine is also bringing Lynx classic Chips Challenge to the Switch, so looks like a publisher to keep an eye on if you are into your gaming nostalgia.
