PSP2, Switch 2 and an Xbox handheld... a brighter portable future?

Sony's State of Play shines with Rise of the Ronin

I was watching the end of Cobra Kai S5 last night with the family rather than stare at more trailers in Sony's latest State of Play. And, now I've caught up, its probably a toss up as to which had the biggest punches, what with a new Tekken game and God of War bookending a collection of exciting looking reveals.

  • Tekken 8
  • Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge Enhance Edition (VR)
  • Demeo (VR)
  • Like a Dragon: Ishin
  • Harry Potter: Hogwarts Legacy
  • Pacific Drive (PS5)
  • SynDuality
  • Stellar Blade (PS5)
  • Rise of the Ronin (PS5, 2024)
  • God of War Ragnarok (PS5) and new DualSense controller
Pacific Drive and Rise of the Ronin have to be the fresh-faced stars of the show, a Japanese Assassin's Creed-alike is no bad thing and Pacific Drive could be the modern version Oregon Trail players have been secretly hoping for.

After the farce of the new Xperia gadget, and the slight more useful but very expensive BackBone smartphone controller, as ever, no news on portable or remote player action. Which I hope remains a sense of shame for PlayStation executives. But they clearly know where their cash-sandwich is buttered, and if the $$$ continue to roll in, who knows when they might feel brave enough to try. Anyway, revisit the event and trailers below, and get ready for a very busy autumn!
