Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. I only really discovered the console world in the late 90s, which is when I got my very first Vectrex. Of course, I had seen it in stores back in 1983, but at that time it was far too expensive for me.  Today, I own five Vectrex systems at home. Vector-based games ...

PS Vita firmware 1.80 out NOW

What are you waiting for, hit that system update button on your Vita. What other gaming platform can claim to have 100+ "new" games out for it on a single day? Enjoy the likes of the original Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, Ridge Racer Type 4 and others, assuming you have the card space.

If you don't hear from me in the next few days, its because there's no real news from now until Tokyo Game Show and because I'll be running through Vagrant Story and a few other fasvourites just one more time. Then again, quite a few PSOne games I picked up look like utter stinkers now, so be careful what you choose.

Nuts, you can't download PS One games from your history list, and the store doesn't have a PS One section yet. Anyone tried side-loading? Elsewhere, there is now a Settings option to enable interface control through the Vita's buttons, it is not on by default.

Here's the PSN post with all the games that you still can't play listed. Don't feel too chipper about that 100 games number, the Japanese have over 600 titles headed their way! (Although many of them are probably Pachinko games). Come on Sony, how hard is it to link two updates together? Its not like there are huge numbers of Vita users to swamp your servers.

  1. What's the point in giving us the ability to play and not giving us the store? Sony needs some rare candy....
