Possible new PlayStation Portal model pays homage to the Vita's OLED

While much of the focus on PlayStation's next steps is the PS6 and PS6 Portable , the two-year old PlayStation Portal could be getting a revamp according to those pesky internet rumours.  Update : Hints at pricing are around £/$250-299 for the new model, but everything remains deeply in rumours territory. Presumably the goal is to hit the 10% (currently 7%-ish) adoption rate among PS5 owners, something that would make it a bone fide hit gadget.   There's a PlayStation State of Play coming up on 12th February that might act as an announcement point. Certainly, PlayStation needs to make Portal more a core member of the PS5 family, rather than a distant cousin that most of its appearances suggest.  As the improvement in connectivity and streaming tech, proven by many gamers enjoying their PS5 or PlayStation Plus streamed content from around the world, an updated Portal Pro could be on the cards.  Possibly featuring a 120Hz display and an OLED screen in honour of ...

Festive portable deals take off from Xbox Ally, Nintendo, PlayStation and Evercade

This page started for black Friday but has moved on as the deals come and go. I will update across the festive sales, as new portable hardware deals appear. I won't hype them as "pocket change" or "fire sale" like some sites, because that's bollocks. 

December deals: 

Steam Deck sale

Update: Valve has jumped in with 20% off the Steam Deck LCD 256GB model (down to £279 in the UK)

Update: Xbox Ally has various deals (pretty short-lived, but likely getting cut again for the post Christmas sale). 

Update: PlayStation Portal has £20 off the range, bringing the white and black models down to £179, and 30th Anniversary Edition to £189. (Look out for another 5% off at checkout!) 

First up is Evercade offering a clutch of offers on hardware and games on Amazon and across other stores in Europe and US markets.

Not all deals have kicked in yet, but the official list is: 

  • Up to 30% off all cartridges released before September 2025
  • 20% off all hardware released before September 2025
  • US and Canada to receive 20% off all lines released before Sep 2025
  • Big names, including Evercade Alpha Street Fighter and Mega Man bartop arcade, Tomb Raider, all Super Pocket consoles, Legacy of Kain, and Evercade EXP-R and VS-R with Tomb Raider included.

Nintendo's Switch 2 hardware deals are limited to the Nintendo store, but the first-generation Switch  with the Mario Galaxy bundle (Amazon) offer some hefty savings, including on the OLED Switch model. And there's plenty of game discounts across both generations, also on Amazon (grabbing Star Wars Outlaws Gold for £27).
