PSP2, Switch 2 and an Xbox handheld... a brighter portable future?

Friday thought: what new titles can Sony show at Tokyo Games Show?

With Gravity Rush now passing 150,000 sales in Japan (and the loaning out of Kat to many other games) what chance a sequel being announced by Sony at this month's TGS? That would likely be the big news, if they showed that off alongside the recently announced Freedom Wars. But what else could Sony show to spark some life into the again-dwindling Vita sales.

Some signs of new titles are already emerging. Sony has already put up a teaser site for Oreshika, an olde-Japan combat role-player. However, the hope has to be Sony will get off its Monster Hunter imitating theme and try something different, the Vita lacks flight combat games, a decent football title and anything like a God of War romp. Turning Sony Japan Studio's attention to any of these fields could produce a decent hit and something to get excited about.

If Sony Japan is starting to follow the western trend toward smaller titles, The Vita is screaming out for a pair LocoRoco and Patapon games that make use of the tilt and touch functions, along with the PSP originals' quirk and charm. Even if they were HD updates, I'd be pretty happy with that, anything you would really like to see out of the event?

Also, since Nintendo pinged out the 2DS to much surprises, I'd be surprised if rumours of that Vita 2 didn't swing back into gear. Anyway, Sony plans a broadcast on the 9th September to announce the PS4 release date in Japan. While the west might not do a bundle, Sony Japan could be more tempted to, given that country's preference for portable gaming. TGS itself takes place from 19-22 September.
