July Update: PlayStation 6 and PlayStation Portable future visions

 The recent PlayStation video about the "simulated" technology in development, discussed between AMD and Sony engineers that will power the PlayStation 6 was interesting from a geek point of view. But from a gameplay perspective, there is - IMO - no need for a PlayStation 6 for another few years. Especially with the limp Xbox is-it-isn't-it launch .  July 2026 Update : Sony managed a cannon-fire sized self-inflicted injury by announcing the end of physical releases across the end of the PS5 era and the launch of the PS6. Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation for PS Vita in pictures

Looks like the Vita will get a bespoke version of Assassin's Creed 3, according to Game Informer which will have an exclusive preview of the game in its next issue. VG24/7 has a list of details including:

  • It’s out same day as AC3 (October 30)
  • Location is New Orleans
  • Female assassin named Aveline of mixed heritage
  • Looks like same time period as AC3
  • Ubisoft Sofia is developing
  • Takes place between 1765-1780 in the period between the end of the French and Indian war
So, hopefully this will be the way the Vita's big games come, offering something different to the main franchise while remaining true to the core gameplay. Can't wait to see this one.
