June Update: PlayStation 6 and PlayStation Portable future visions

The recent PlayStation video about the "simulated" technology in development, discussed between AMD and Sony engineers that will power the PlayStation 6 was interesting from a geek point of view. But from a gameplay perspective, there is - IMO - no need for a PlayStation 6 for another few years. Especially with the limp Xbox is-it-isn't-it launch .  June 2026 Update : The latest snippet of gossip for Sony's next-gen systems is a modular/external drive that will connect to both devices. Allowing installation on the portable of physical games, and reducing the cost of the PS6 by making the Blu-ray an accessory (like the PS5 Slim).  I prefer the idea of a dedicated dock on the PS6 that connects the next Portable to your entire PSN library, and they'd better make it work as an extra controller, but I'm sure there are practical benefits to the extra drive.   That should also boost sales of PS4 and PS5 physical games, especially on the second-hand market, as folk...

Flying Oak Games' Knuckle Paradise revealed today

Among my favourite indie devs, Flying Oak stands tall with a couple of awesome titles in NeuroVoider and the more recent ScourgeBringer in their library. Some five years in the making, the next chapter is Knuckle Paradise, getting a reveal on indie showcase The Second Wind Games Show (stream available below), taking place around 9PM UK.

Update: And there's the English launch trailer with a deeper explanation of the techniques within Knuckle Paradise...

Earlier Update: And here's the official teaser trailer... no game can go wrong with an opening like "I was kidnapped,... I met a chicken." Who, based on the action in the brief clip, is your buddy in battle against raging teddies, sumo wrestlers and other thugs in a pixel/isometric combo-packed title.

It stars Jane as a retired boxer and her sidekick, Cocotte the warrior chicken. Fight everybody. Learn combos from a pirate. Fight harder. Level up your chicken. Find your kidnappers. Teach them a lesson.

Knuckle Paradise was just one of the many awesome-looking games at the event, do scan through the show replay below and fall in love with a host of new games.

Original article continues: There's a few early WIP clips on Flying Oak's Twitter feed from last year, but much has likely changed, so I won't even bother showing them. Knuckle Paradise will feature among 10 world premieres and 90 other games, so get your caffeinated beverage of choice on standby.

The Flying Oak team, who are working with ARTE Interactive these days, follow that up with a spot on Sunday's Games Made in France on Twitch (en français, naturellement).

Whatever Knuckle Paradise looks like on reveal, here's hoping Flying Oak keeps up with the bullet ballet theme that broadly defined the first couple of games. The joy of fluid movement and heavy firepower within tight pixel levels provided great challenge and fun across Vita and other platforms.

Will update with some impressions after the reveal!

Currently playing on my Vita/PS3/PS4/PS5
