PlayStation 6 and PlayStation Portable future visions

The recent PlayStation video about the "simulated" technology in development between AMD and Sony engineers that will power the PlayStation 6 was interesting from a geek point of view. But from a gameplay perspective, there is - IMO - no need for a PlayStation 6 for another few years. Especially with the limp Xbox is-it-isn't-it launch .  April 2026 Update:  Compatibility with PS5 and PS4 games seems to be locked-in, as anything the PS6 full fat hardware the portable versions should be able to do as well, with near-invisible trade-offs at the silicon level.  Prices are firming up too with estimates around the PlayStation 6 handheld at between $500 to $700 and a PlayStation 6 at $700 to $1,000, depending on the deepening silicon crisis and Sony's budgeting wizards.  Only a few developers around the world could afford to take advantage of it for AAA+ budget games. Everyone else is still barely cutting the skin of the PS5's power, and most western smaller/indie o...

No Project Hail Mary: The Game?

Having read the book, I'm all up for the Project Hail Mary hype, with Ryan Gosling and his alien buddy trying to save the Earth. But one thing that definitely feels missing from the movie, and pretty much most modern blockbusters, is the tie-in video game.

Update: Literally late to the game, we have an announcement, Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars is a VR release coming later in 2026. The player and Rocky do their stuff with the author Andy Weir and film's producers chipping in for this quick take.

Remember when the gaming world was nothing but tie-ins?

Note, there is a mission simulation on Amazon's website, based on movie clips, but no word of a proper game. Although, at this point, I'd take an interactive version of the film, just like in the multimedia days, when mini-epics like The Daedalus Encounter had hefty production and marketing budgets.

Coming from the days of Cobra, Die Hard Trilogy, Jurassic Park, Terminator and many more, it seems a shame we don't get these arcade treats today. And the lack of a Driving Miss Daisy GTA spin-off remains criminal!

Looking back through the book, physics, language and chemistry puzzles could could break up an FPS adventure. Or, I'd happily take an old-school LucasArts point-and-click style adventure or even a Marsport flip-screen exploring title.

I asked an AI to mock up some 16-bit visuals, based on clips from the trailer... nothing really dramatic or inspiring. But it definitely an idea that more developers, especially those setting up on their own amid the ongoing major publisher fractures, should be waving about, even as a demo to get them attention.

Let us know if you hear word of a title in development?
