Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. I only really discovered the console world in the late 90s, which is when I got my very first Vectrex. Of course, I had seen it in stores back in 1983, but at that time it was far too expensive for me.  Today, I own five Vectrex systems at home. Vector-based games ...

Ayaneo's Pocket Fit, would it fit in your pocket?

Ayaneo has yet another handheld retro/modern gaming device up on Indiegogo. With the bold claim in the name of Pocket Fit.

While it looks good, and according to the info is a smidge bigger than the Nintendo Switch Lite, even from these images I can't imagine any pocket in my wardrobe where this would actually fit at all, or without sticking out like a sore Android console shouting to a London criminal "steal me!"

Inside the Pocket Fit

Packing a 6-inch HD 144Hz screen, Snapdragon 8 Elite processor or a G3 Gen 3 depending on your budget, either way, there's plenty of power under the hood and it does look good, with all the mod cons like Hall Effect controls and decent ergonomics.

The Indiegogo backer starter price is currently around £177, which is pretty sane considering some of the portable options out there. With processor, memory and storage options taking it up the brackets to £250 and topping out at £377 for 24GB of memory and 1TB of storage, which feels excessive.

For now, my Miyoo Mini remains my go to pocketable device, and I can't see that changing any time soon.
