Air Combat 22 locks on to Arcade Archives 2

Super-cruising past the Ridge Racer System 22 release, Namco and Hamster are bringing the console daddy of the Ace Combat series to consoles as part of Arcade Archives 2. Can't say I'm quite as excited for this one, but the chance to dive into major-league arcade history is a glorious opportunity.

Again, its a split release across "Arcade Archives Air Combat 22" for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, and "Arcade Archives 2 Air Combat 22" for Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5. Likely with the same pricing as Ridge, but well worth it for the genuine 32-bit experience.

Can't say I saw this one in arcades, but the Ace Combat series has long been a favourite across the generations with tight air and ground combat. And the super-smooth System 22 performance is always worth a try. Ripping around the skies in a F-14 Tomcat, Sukhoi Su-27, or F-22 Raptor has never been more fun!

This news also opens up the possibility of other System 22 titles like Rave Racer, Ace Driver, Alpine Surfer and Cyber Commando coming our way. Meanwhile, in related news...

Ace Combat is 30

And with the Ace Combat series hitting its 30th anniversary, there's a highlights video across the series' history with more orchestral performances of the games' music played in Japan, as happened with the 25th. Guessing this will culminate in some new game or revisit announcement soon.

With the brand's director, Kazutoki Kono, hinting in his anniversary message that "And now, we’re ready. Everything is in place. It’s time to take flight once again—toward even greater heights." Get ready for more Ad Astra, chaps!
