July Update: PlayStation 6 and PlayStation Portable future visions

 The recent PlayStation video about the "simulated" technology in development, discussed between AMD and Sony engineers that will power the PlayStation 6 was interesting from a geek point of view. But from a gameplay perspective, there is - IMO - no need for a PlayStation 6 for another few years. Especially with the limp Xbox is-it-isn't-it launch .  July 2026 Update : Sony managed a cannon-fire sized self-inflicted injury by announcing the end of physical releases across the end of the PS5 era and the launch of the PS6. Best Switch 2 launch news... Ridge Racer (also PS5!)

 I missed this during the Switch 2 release stampede, but its probably the best piece of news for me. The original Ridge Racer coming to Arcade Archives 2 with save slots and rewind. Plus all the tunes, the iconic cars and the legendary track powered by System 22 arcade hardware that made it a no-no for emulators for many years. 

Update: Unsurprisingly, Ridge Racer has also been confirmed for PS5 with its own little branded video. For older machines, Arcade Archives Ridge Racer will and on the Switch, XBox and PS4 for $14.99. FYI, yes there's a platinum, and its a fun, short, challenge to grab! 

Update: Pricing has been announced, at a rather hefty 1,800 yen, around $16.99 (£13.99 UK). Whatever the cost, I'll still jump for the time attack mode and the fact that its RIIIIIIDGE RACERRRRRR! And the PS5 version comes with a Platinum trophy if you can remember ever nudge and corner of the track.

Original story continues: Here's hoping the rest of the Namco series gets a polish and relaunch, with the PS3 and Vita Ridge Racer titles locked in purgatory. The game arrives with the launch of the Switch 2, but I'm hoping on Switch original hardware also, on June 5th.
