July Update: PlayStation 6 and PlayStation Portable future visions

 The recent PlayStation video about the "simulated" technology in development, discussed between AMD and Sony engineers that will power the PlayStation 6 was interesting from a geek point of view. But from a gameplay perspective, there is - IMO - no need for a PlayStation 6 for another few years. Especially with the limp Xbox is-it-isn't-it launch .  July 2026 Update : Sony managed a cannon-fire sized self-inflicted injury by announcing the end of physical releases across the end of the PS5 era and the launch of the PS6. Hyper Sentinel Fusion brings a modern twist to Uridium and Paradroid

Hewson's Hyper Sentinel is one of the games always lurking near the top of my Switch list as a great retro shooter in the style of Uridium. Newly announced and heading to Kickstarter soon, Hyper Sentinel Fusion ups the stakes with a roguelite twist - think adding some Paradroid meets Hades to the mix.

Update: Funding unsuccessful, proving that modern gamers really have no idea how good the classics were. Fortunately, development continues!

Just two of the best-ever 8-bit games getting slammed together there with a modern twist, which makes me want to go play FuturLab's Velocity 2X! 

To start, we swoop across the surface of colossal, procedurally-generated space-destroyers and enemy bases in a Sentinel fighter. Dog-fighting, dodging and destroying surface defences. Then, once the defences have been lowered, land the Hyper Droid inside to plunder and pillage whatever treasures there are before the whole place self destructs.

Kickstarter backers can bag a 3.5" Mega Floppy Micro Drive (USB) physical edition for PC. Hyper I'm guessing console stretch goals will be part of the campaign. Sentinel Fusion will be on show at the London Games Festival where it is nominated for a Best of British award.
