Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. I only really discovered the console world in the late 90s, which is when I got my very first Vectrex. Of course, I had seen it in stores back in 1983, but at that time it was far too expensive for me.  Today, I own five Vectrex systems at home. Vector-based games ...

Broken Sword collection swishes onto Evercade

Evercade's first formal new release for 2025 has been revealed as the Broken Sword collection, bringing the first pair of the well-regarded PlayStation adventure series to the retro console platform. Revolution Software's series is now up to no. 5, with a sixth on the way - and a recent remaster of the original likely to be followed by more.

Update: The release date for Broken Sword and Indie Collection 4 have slipped from the end of February to the 10th March. Pre-orders live on 30th January.  And pre-orders are live now!

But for Evercaders, playing the originals is what we're all about, and the platform is pretty bare when it comes to classic point-and-click adventures. Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars Reforged and Broken Sword 2: The Smoking Mirror will go a long way to rectifying that problem.

With gorgeous animation, epic stories and tricky puzzles, they are legendary games for good reason.

Console cartridge no. 44 (really Evercade, no F1 racing collection in honour of Lewis Hamilton?) arrives in February, so not long to wait. And its likely the rest of the series will follow, so we can pencil those into the release list.

And there's plenty more to look forward to this year, with Evercade's wrap-up last year promising "So I don’t say this lightly –  2025 is going to be even bigger! Whether you’re a fan of Evercade or HyperMegaTech!, our focus is on providing you with even more amazing products, surprises, and memories to treasure."
