Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. I only really discovered the console world in the late 90s, which is when I got my very first Vectrex. Of course, I had seen it in stores back in 1983, but at that time it was far too expensive for me.  Today, I own five Vectrex systems at home. Vector-based games ...

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition springs onto Switch

The Wii U's modern classic Xenoblade Chronicles X is headed to the Switch in the guise of a Definitive Edition, promising a graphical polish and some extra story elements, custom characters and multiplayer missions.

Otherwise, there isn't much that developer MonolithSoft needs to do to bring in a sack load more cash for Nintendo. Definitely one I'll be picking up on its spring release, 20th March as part of a series I've heard lots about but never had the time or inclination to get around to enjoying.

It'll be fun to compare it to the revamped Freedom Wars coming to PS5 too, with the Skell mechs stomping around the landscape.

The original ran at 720p and 30fps, so hopefully there's room for an uptick alongside the graphical tweaks. Of more interest among the forum chit-chat is the chance of XCX being a cross-gen game with the Nintendo Switch 2, likely thought later updates to super-charge the experience further.

Specific details are thin on the ground, as ever with Nintendo's drip-feed approach, but there's the box art to drool over, and plenty of speculation about the extras and Switch 2 potential. Given Sony's heavy reliance on remasters, pretty sure no one gets to bitch about this, as the Wii U userbase was pretty niche too.

The other big chunk of excitement is the increasing likelihood of other Wii U games heading to the Switch as we enter an era of fewer full-effort major releases and more dives into the archives to keep gamers entertained (and show younger players what they missed out on).
