Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. I only really discovered the console world in the late 90s, which is when I got my very first Vectrex. Of course, I had seen it in stores back in 1983, but at that time it was far too expensive for me.  Today, I own five Vectrex systems at home. Vector-based games ...

Eastasiasoft brings Tokyo Clanpool and Hakuoki to the Switch

One of the last Vita releases in Japan, Tokyo Clanpool pretty much sank on launch, costing developer Compile Heart a chunk of budget. With various publishers having mined much of the Vita back catalogue to varying degrees of success, it seems only reasonable that Clanpool (Vita JP pic below, pretty sure it never got am English release) gets a shot at western success, courtesy of Eastasiasoft, translated by Andrew 'Steiner' Hodgson.

A fan-service laden DRPG with annoying mewling politico-heroines, it had none of the punky vibe of Mary Skelter or the cheeky delight of Demon's Gaze, but hey - if Switch completionists are after another dose of blockish role-playing, go for it. There are both standard and 3,000 Limited Edition physicals on offer, with the usual artbook, CD and stickers in the pricier version.

The publisher's summer showcase also showed off Hakuoki: Chronicles of Wind and Blossom, a remaster of the Vita's Edo Blossom visual novels from Idea Factory. More sedate fare, these are charming adventures dating back to the PSP, but should look great with upscaled art and with all the physical goodies.

More detail on the official site, as legendary warriors battle for the affection of noble ladies during the feudal era, with physical pre-orders live this week (July 4th).
