Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. I only really discovered the console world in the late 90s, which is when I got my very first Vectrex. Donut Dodo leads Evercade Indie Heroes 3 Collection

Donut Dodo from Pixel Games is one of my favourite retro games of the year, bringing the best of 8-bit arcade action with a few modern tweaks. Check out my review of the Switch version from which the below image comes.

The manic dodo, who is actually the villain of the piece, features front-and-centre on the artwork for Indie Heroes 3. The (February) 2024 collection of games that got a free digital release on the Evercade VS and EXP over 2023.

Ideal for those with the original Evercade model, other games featured in the collection include:

Platformers: Doodle World Redrawn, Magic and Legend: Time Knights, Thunderpaw, Bubble Seahorse Adventures, Orebody: Binder's Tale, and Skate Kat

Puzzlers: Alien Cat 2: Enhanced Edition, Big2Small, Chew Chew Mimic, Bone Marrow,

Adventure: The Little Tales of Alexandria

Action: Chibi Monster Br4wl

Not only is a great collection (loved the original Alien Cat!), it gives smaller indie developers the chance of a physical release for their games and a broader audience.

Bubble Seahorse Adventures is the latest digital release that has just become available for those with the newer Evercade hardware.

And here's the trailer for a quick look at each game to get a feel for them. Check out the previous editions, Indie Heroes 1 and Indie Heroes 2, both packed with fun and surprises.
