Nintendo unleashed a fresh batch of indie games on the world last night, showcasing 11 new, quirky and revamped titles coming soon from developers around the world.
Leading the way, the portable gaming's and the Vita's favourite half-genie (games still on PSN, but prices pretty much the same price as eShop) is Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution.
Originally planned by dev WayForward as a GBA sequel for the GBC original (also on eShop), Risky Revolution was never released back in the day – but the team got back together recently and new/old Shantae will arrive next year with some updated tricks including a four-play on-screen battle mode.
Another highlight from the herd of indies is A Highland Song from Inkle, exploring the Scottish hills and lochs with music and gorgeous hand-drawn art to tell a lilting tale.
It is also a race against time to reach the sea fastest, scrambling through caves, over moors and the granite mountains that pose all sorts of challenges and adventures, with a growing story along the way. A Switch console exclusive, the Highlands opens up on 5th December.
OuterWilds: Archaeologist Edition from Annapurna Interactive has a fierce fan base and ups the visual stakes with a 3D space system to explore, wormholes, spacecraft, asteroids and all.
It comes for the first time to the Switch, with a mystery to solve with the system trapped in its own time loop, with the original game and an Echoes of the Eye expansion to add more to the adventure. This one arrives on the 7th December.
If you want something new right now, Backpack Hero is available today, with a great take on the RPG trope of packing your gear in the rucksack-of-never-enough-room. You have to collect rare items, organize your bag, and unleash great power to complete your missions across the many dungeons underneath Haversack Hill.
You can watch the full recap below, and the full list from the Nindies reveal is:
Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution
Core Keeper
On Your Tail
Howl
The Star Named EOS
Backpack Hero
Blade Chimera
A Highland Song
Moonstone Island
Death Trick: Double Blind
Outer Wilds: Archaeologist Edition
