July Update: PlayStation 6 and PlayStation Portable future visions

The recent PlayStation video about the "simulated" technology in development, discussed between AMD and Sony engineers that will power the PlayStation 6 was interesting from a geek point of view. But from a gameplay perspective, there is - IMO - no need for a PlayStation 6 for another few years. Especially with the limp Xbox is-it-isn't-it launch .  July 2026 Update : Sony managed a cannon-fire sized self-inflicted injury by announcing the end of physical releases across the end of the PS5 era and the launch of the PS6. Due to lack of sales (only 7 titles have passed the 100,000 mark in the last year) and economics, it still doesn't matter to PlayStation owners, collectors are stores, who can now only sell digital codes in a box.  June 2026 Update : The latest snippet of gossip for Sony's next-gen systems is a modular/external drive that will connect to both devices. Rebel Transmute brings Metroidgenius to consoles

It has been a while since I battled through the tense worlds of Axiom Verge, Chasm and a few others on the Vita. Now I'm tempted to go rushing back while waiting for the Switch/PlayStation arrival of Rebel Transmute, another solo dev creation and labour of love.

Update: Rebel Transmute is now live on Steam, consoles to hopefully follow soon with wishlisting up on eShop and PSN!

A modern Metroidvania, Rebel Transmute sees Moon Mikono, a space scrapper with over 50 collectable augments to help her out, racing across sparkling pixel world of Terra 6. Most of those transmutes will be needed to help her find her lost mother, vanished after a disaster befell her own mission. Each will change how players approach the game, which should be good for replayability.

Rebel Transmute

Across and under a rich and engaging world, with the usual swimming, gravity-switching and other challenges, she will have to use those skills to fight colonizers, unravel a dark mystery, battle cosmic bosses, befriend emotive bots, and transmute her very being to get the job done.

From the heart of solo developer Evan Tor, there's lots to like, with a demo live of Steam. I've only just come across the trailer, with a console release scheduled for some point. Keep checking back to find out when we can jump in to this great-looking adventure.

 A few more details:
  • Encounter over 80 unique enemies and over 10 formidable bosses! From mutated worms and electrified beasts, to rogue AI’s and gigantic bugs. All offering different and exciting challenges and interactions.
  • Discover game-changing abilities hidden throughout the outpost. Spin Bash, Wall Jump, and Void Dash your way across an interconnected network of tunnels, caverns, and research laboratories!
  • Augment your playstyle with 48 optional upgrades that can drastically change how you play the game. Fight alongside a reprogrammed drone, twist your attacks into spiraling laser blasts, or even summon tentacles to block projectiles!

Currently playing on my Vita/PS3/PS4/PS5
