Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. I only really discovered the console world in the late 90s, which is when I got my very first Vectrex. Of course, I had seen it in stores back in 1983, but at that time it was far too expensive for me.  Today, I own five Vectrex systems at home. Vector-based games ...

SteamWorld Build digs the Switch this year

The SteamWorld universe is a bountiful place for gamers, with adventure, action, great fun, and a playful musing about what the team will do next. After the classic fun of SteamWorlds Dig, Heist, Quest and the promise of Headhunter, where will they go? That next step was revealed this week, with SteamWorld Build due later this year across Switch, PlayStation Xbox and PC from Thunderful Games.

Update: Release date is set for 1st December

Steamworld Build

Build starts off with a charming, yet detailed, city construction zone, replete with chunky locos riding the rails, metallic bulls on farms and a host of industrial looking properties. But underneath, the bots are hard at work in the mines. The ultimate aim is to escape this barren and dying planet by uncovering the technology buried in the ground.

They must be built, various resources exploited and guarded to pay for it all and power the industry, bringing players into conflict with whatever lies beneath. Presumably they are also guarding the technology we need to get off the planet. And it wouldn't be SteamWorld without a few plot twists along the way.

Steamworld Build

I'm not sure how well the Switch version will play on the portable screen, (I've asked the team for some info), but otherwise this is everything we love about SteamWorld, with some new twists and nods to gaming classics like Sim City and Bullfrog's Dungeon Keeper hits.
