PlayStation 6 and PlayStation Portable future visions

The recent PlayStation video about the "simulated" technology in development between AMD and Sony engineers that will power the PlayStation 6 was interesting from a geek point of view. But from a gameplay perspective, there is - IMO - no need for a PlayStation 6 for another few years. Especially with the limp Xbox is-it-isn't-it launch .  April 2026 Update:  Compatibility with PS5 and PS4 games seems to be locked-in, as anything the PS6 full fat hardware the portable versions should be able to do as well, with near-invisible trade-offs at the silicon level.  Prices are firming up too with estimates around the PlayStation 6 handheld at between $500 to $700 and a PlayStation 6 at $700 to $1,000, depending on the deepening silicon crisis and Sony's budgeting wizards.  Only a few developers around the world could afford to take advantage of it for AAA+ budget games. Everyone else is still barely cutting the skin of the PS5's power, and most western smaller/indie o...

Romancing Saga 3 physical release on the way?

Now that PSN has closed to new Vita games, any trophy listings that pop-up have to be for physical releases. I was expecting to see Indigo 7 appear, as the developer was talking about a late surprise, having missed the PSN window - which would have to be through PlayAsia. So far, so logical.

However, seeing Romancing Saga 3 trophies listed is more of a pleasant shock. Assuming its not some regional trophy shuffle action (which the PS4 badge might lean toward). The Square RPG was a PSN-only release back in 2019, but always seemed worthy of a grander release as the company's last Vita production.

Update: A PS4 physical version is listed as going on-sale for Switch and PS4 on PlayAsia this week, so it could be that (with the Vita tagging on as a mistake or afterthought).  But wouldn't it be cool if PA managed to sneak out a little Vita production run?

Original continues...

Given the PSN version is still £27, any physical shouldn't be a relative bargain - assuming PlayAsia is looking at bigger releases and partnerships, beyond indies and niche Japanese publishers. That depends on the size of the production run I guess (after Limited Run's Super Meat Boy low-yield effort). Hopefully, if this pans out, PlayAsia will make a little more effort for the pack-ins with a limited edition, rather than their usual CD and card.

PlayAsia said earlier in August that they would have some Vita news "soon." They must hate trophy listings appearing for ruining their announcements, but since there's so little Vita news these days, anything at any time is a blessing. Of course, if it is a PSN quirk or mistake - apologies for getting Vita owners excited over nothing but the coincidence of RS3 turning up alongside a "confirmed" release is pretty convincing.

Keep checking back for details of pre-orders and anything else that arrives. With such a high-profile release, there's always a suspicion that this might be the last Vita title, but guess we'll find out soon enough.
