Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. I only really discovered the console world in the late 90s, which is when I got my very first Vectrex. Of all the Nintendo E3 news, Advance Wars wins!

Nintendo had a lot of good stuff to show during its E3 Direct and Clubhouse show. Sure, everyone is drooling over Metroid and Hyrule, but that's to be expected. The one that tickled my gaming sensibilities most was the Reboot for Advance Wars. 

That and Battle Isle were the staple multi-player war games back in the day, and this looks like a love letter than a cold-hard cash in. With WayForward on development duties, I think we can be sure of a high-quality effort all round, and it looks pretty good with what was shown in the brief trailer. 


There's plenty of content with the original Advance Wars and Black Hole Rising, and it looks like none of the over-complications of games that try to do modernise on the genre. The December release seems a bit sketchy, putting it up with all the other seasonal big hitters. Not that it really matters, sign me up!
