Saros delivers Returnal 2 in all but name

Housemarque's Returnal remains one of the best PS5 games. Built to kill, raised to die, and fine-tuned to annoy the shit out me while dragging me back in for yet another go at  2AM.  Not-a-sequel Saros ropes in my one of my favourite actors Rahul Kohli into the mix with proper shields, greater weapons freedom, Indian-styled visuals, and borrowing  Xenon 2: Megablast's palette and violence.  Saros is set on Carcosa, a shape-shifting, hostile alien planet. It changes on every death, where a total eclipse changes everything (very Pitch Black!). The video shows the first biome, hopefully the others shift up the palette more than Returnal did.  Along his journey he finds Nitya Chandran (Shunori Ramanthan), adding some depth to the Returnal-mayhem. The stunning environment Arjun explores is that of a lost ancient civilization fueled by the twisted enlightenment of the eclipse.  Saros lands in March 2026, check out the PlayStation blog post for more details on w...

Sturmfront The Mutant War rages on the Vita

"It ain't over 'til its over" burbled Lenny Kravitz many years ago. And the Vita still keeps ticking over with later-day support from number of publishers who had seemingly gone quiet. Good of them to come and say goodbye properly.

Adding to the growing 2021 release list is RedArt with Andrade Games' Sturmfront The Mutant War getting a digital release, announced on the bank holiday.

Update: EU PSN release date is now confirmed as 18th June, US PSN to be announced.

Another update: Trophy listing now live.

Yet another update: June 22nd US PSN dated, EU moved to the 23rd

As this is RedArt's last game for the Vita, it gets a Farewell Edition badge. Sturmfront brings some of my favourite childhood arcade games back to life, riffing off classics like Commando, Ikari Warriors and Shock Troopers, updated with bullet hell wizardry.

You play as Siefried, an experimental cyborg battle unit fighting against the mutant hordes to a metal soundtrack laced with psychedelic electronica. Here's the PS4 trailer, bringing a rare 18-rated game to the Vita. Funnily enough, I was playing the PSP Alien Syndrome, and this has a strong vibe of the original.

Currently playing on my Vita/PS3/PS4/PS5
