Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. I only really discovered the console world in the late 90s, which is when I got my very first Vectrex. Of course, I had seen it in stores back in 1983, but at that time it was far too expensive for me.  Today, I own five Vectrex systems at home. Vector-based games ...

Evercade VS console and arcade game pre-orders live

After an impressive effort last Thursday, there is less than 20% 15% 10% no stock of the Founder Edition stock left. Can't say I'm surprised given the £169 price point for the black unit and all those goodies. Great to see the Evercade moving units so well, I'm amazed at how popular it is, given the modest bubble of fans on Twitter, and I can't wait to see the fan base grow with the new models.

On the plus side, if black is not really your thing, then the more budget-conscious white models are now live for pre-order, along with the first four arcade collections, depending on what bundle you choose. Popping up on Amazon and other outlets, expect brisk trade based on the original Evercade launch.

Tip: Buy the red cable and you can use your Evercade handheld as a controller for the Vs!

Argos already has the Vs consoles Premium (£109) and Starter (£89) packs up for pre-order. If you're new to Evercade, you an also save a few £££ on some of the earlier cartridges. Game also has pre-orders up. If you are outside the UK, Evercade has a handy list of stockists.

Please note, if you do buy from Amazon UK, I get a tiny commission that goes toward buying carts for reviews and content.

Note that the cool black controller is only available separately on Funstock if you want to mix things up a bit. The new Vs console and arcade games will ship on November the 3rd, but the original handheld is in stock in most places if you want to splash into #EvercadeCove right now.

Be aware that the Namco 1 and 2 carts can't play on the new Vs console due to a licensing issue, but hopefully that will get sorted. Otherwise, all carts play on both the handheld original Evercade and the Vs console.

While all the fuss might be about the new Arcade carts, remember the upcoming Bitmap Brothers and Intellivision carts, highlighting the Evercade's wide-ranging love of retro across all formats. Long may that continue, however we get to play them!

Wake me up when October ends!
