Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. I only really discovered the console world in the late 90s, which is when I got my very first Vectrex. Of course, I had seen it in stores back in 1983, but at that time it was far too expensive for me.  Today, I own five Vectrex systems at home. Vector-based games ...

Bitmap Brothers collection heads to Evercade

A lot of the Evercade carts have some classics, some curios and the odd uhh? game among them. But this is probably as close as Evercade has come so far to hitting a solid gold AAA effort.

Not only does it show that Evercade is listening, The Bitmaps came up as a suggestion when they were looking for ideas, it shows another step up in quality acquisitions. The Bitmap Brothers Collection 1 packs in five legendary titles for the handheld (and upcoming Vs console):

  • The Chaos Engine
  • Speedball
  • Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe
  • Speedball 2100 (PlayStation)
  • Xenon 2: Megablast

The questions are already flying about which versions we'll get, guess time will tell on that question, with the Amiga versions usually the definitive ones, but more likely SNES/Mega Drive ones on the cart.

I guess its a shame the original Xenon is absent and Gods was recently remastered by someone else, so there may be rights issues. But, there's plenty of scope for further collections and even so, this is a cart I would play the heck out of until the end of time.

The Bitmap's join other great British development talent coming to the Evercade, including the Worms series from Team 17 and The Oliver Twins/Codemaster's Dizzy collection
