Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. I only really discovered the console world in the late 90s, which is when I got my very first Vectrex. Of course, I had seen it in stores back in 1983, but at that time it was far too expensive for me.  Today, I own five Vectrex systems at home. Vector-based games ...

Evercade adds second Lynx cart packed with portable greatness

UPDATE: Evercade's publishing deal with Atari has concluded, so the Lynx and Atari 2600/7800 carts have been delisted, find them where you can on second-hand stores.

Off topic a bit, but I love the Lynx as it got me into portable gaming, and shares in Duracell. And its back on the cool Evercade handheld, up now for pre-order for only £80 with a load of games, plus news of a new bundle of some of the very best Lynx titles.

Here's one of the first reviews (Eurogamer) "To give an insight into the thought put into Evercade, the Mega Drive emulator is a port of BlastEm - a cycle-accurate emulator on PC that offers exceptional accuracy and performance. BlastEm author Michael Pavone handled the Evercade port himself, optimising it for the mobile hardware. As far as the other systems go, it's not clear which emulators are in use but the result is great in each case, with accurate audio and glitch-free visuals."

Evercade’s new Atari Lynx cartridge packs in 8 games including: the eternal fun of California Games, quality racer Checkered Flag, top shooters Zarlor Mercenary and Blue Lightning! and the seriously great puzzler Chips Challenge, along with Todd's Adventures in Slimeworld, Electro Cop and Gates of Zendocon,

I owned pretty much all of them back in the day and miss the challenge and crisp visuals of what was a colourful revolution, even during Atari's sad and slow decline.

California Games

The Evercade handheld has been picking up great early reviews and is available on Amazon from the 1st of June. which also connects to your TV via HDMI. These games are incredibly hard to play in any way currently (shy of owning the original console and cartridges) and shows Evercade’s continued mission to bring quality retro games to a single platform.

The cartridge joins a library of 11 other cartridges which includes content from publishers Atari, Data East, Interplay, Mega Cat Studios, Namco Museum.
