Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. I only really discovered the console world in the late 90s, which is when I got my very first Vectrex. Of course, I had seen it in stores back in 1983, but at that time it was far too expensive for me.  Today, I own five Vectrex systems at home. Vector-based games ...

Alienware waves around a new portable Concept UFO at CES2020

Handheld gaming is dead, so Sony tell us.

And here's Alienware with an interesting if rather minimal-looking UFO concept they are unveiling at CES today (7th Jan, 10AM west coast US time). It has an impressive screen, runs Windows 10, yet looks a bit light on the buttons front, with Switch-style detachable controllers. Presumably the UFO would be good for arcade gaming on the go, or remote-playing PC games if it comes with a decent 5G/WiFi stack. Would be even cooler if it could remote play your console collection too?

Will update if anything interesting comes out of the launch, how about an official Windows PlayStation emulator for PSone, PS2, PSP and Vita games? That'd be cool. But Alienware has dabbled with phones and other gimmicks before to not much effect. And as Alienware is owned by Dell, you can just seem some corporate dick going, "hey, lets rip off console gaming!" with no real thought about doing anything interesting or different.

A little more info from Laptop mag shows just how unexcited the gaming world is about it.

UPDATE: More talk today from @Alienware about the gadget, packing an eight-inch 1900×1200 resolution screen and a 10th generation Intel processor.
