PSP2, Switch 2 and an Xbox handheld... a brighter portable future?

Switch sales dominate in Japan

As the previous story highlighted, Nintendo is celebrating hitting five million sales in Japan. Media Create sales data shows a metronomic 45-50K a week being sold over the usually slow summer period, with a little dip last week down to 42K, with 11 Switch games in the top 20. Little Dragon Cafe was the highest new entry at No. 6 selling 11,860 copies, double the PS4 version.

If it can keep that up it will easily catch the PS4 up late next year. Picking up the Vita's mantle as an indie hit machine, and as smaller publishers and developers move on from Sony's portable, Switch should go from strength to strength. A mid-life upgrade is likely already factored in to keep the momentum rolling as with PS4 Pro and X1, and while it'll never pick up the ultra-massive AAA titles due to storage limitations, a decent roster of Doom, Wolfenstein and others will keep most players happy.
