Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. I only really discovered the console world in the late 90s, which is when I got my very first Vectrex. Of course, I had seen it in stores back in 1983, but at that time it was far too expensive for me.  Today, I own five Vectrex systems at home. Vector-based games ...

Fortnite brings battle royale to the Switch

Will Fortnite threaten any of Nintendo's titles as the most popular game on the Switch? The free to download game is live now and there are plenty of players already trying to be last survivor in this hectic but fun shooter/survival game.

If you're new to the idea, 100 players parachute onto an island, needing to find weapons, ammo, health and construction materials to build defences. Or you can just run around madly whacking people with your pickaxe, all with the aim of being the last person standing.

The game has over 125 million players across PC, mobile and console, and the Switch with its younger age users might be ideal for the non-gory shooter.

What turned out to be very good news for Switch users is causing a right pain for Sony, with many demanding why the game isn't on Vita, and cross-platform players furious that if they used their Epic account on a PS4, it won't work on the Switch version. That's yet another example of Sony's walled garden ruining gaming for people used to interconnecting.

See you in the lake!
