June Update: PlayStation 6 and PlayStation Portable future visions

The recent PlayStation video about the "simulated" technology in development, discussed between AMD and Sony engineers that will power the PlayStation 6 was interesting from a geek point of view. But from a gameplay perspective, there is - IMO - no need for a PlayStation 6 for another few years. Especially with the limp Xbox is-it-isn't-it launch .  June 2026 Update : The latest snippet of gossip for Sony's next-gen systems is a modular/external drive that will connect to both devices. Allowing installation on the portable of physical games, and reducing the cost of the PS6 by making the Blu-ray an accessory (like the PS5 Slim).  I prefer the idea of a dedicated dock on the PS6 that connects the next Portable to your entire PSN library, and they'd better make it work as an extra controller, but I'm sure there are practical benefits to the extra drive.   That should also boost sales of PS4 and PS5 physical games, especially on the second-hand market, as folk...

FUNDED: Congratulations to Escape Hatch and Starlight Inception!

Now go code us a kick ass game!

With some half-an-hour on the clock, and having raised over $30,000 in its last day, the PS Vita's first crowd-funded game hit its $150,000 funding mark, meaning that in around a year, we should have an awesome looking space shooter game to play.

Congratulations to the Escape Hatch team and thanks to everyone who contributed (and followers who put up with my incessant posting - I hope I helped in some small way.)

This just in from the team:

Down to the wire, down to the last 26 minutes or so, it had to be like this - it couldn't be easy, because creation never is easy.  It is always borne of sweat, determination, sacrifice and raw will.  And you all demonstrated those qualities a hundred fold, backing this campaign and sticking with it as we learned our hard lessons about how to run a Kickstarter campaign properly.
It is so awesome to know that we have so many backers excited about what we're going to create together over the next year, and to know that you'll all have input into the process will make the development a joy.  We may not always please everyone, but we certainly will do our best to make a great space game.
And we had to hit some records today - I've heard (unconfirmed) that we were the 11th highest funded Kickstarter in the history of the site, and that's without even being a staff pick for one day!

Currently playing on my Vita/PS3/PS4/PS5
