Possible new PlayStation Portal model pays homage to the Vita's OLED

While much of the focus on PlayStation's next steps is the PS6 and PS6 Portable , the two-year old PlayStation Portal could be getting a revamp according to those pesky internet rumours.  Update : Hints at pricing are around £/$250-299 for the new model, but everything remains deeply in rumours territory. Presumably the goal is to hit the 10% (currently 7%-ish) adoption rate among PS5 owners, something that would make it a bone fide hit gadget.   The recent February  PlayStation State of Play  saw no announcement. PlayStation Vita may get free-to-play games

Taking on the mobile horde won't be easy, but one thing that will make the job easier is arming the PS Vita with free-to-play titles, most likely ones that come with in-game purchases of content, items or new levels to fund the developers.

In a recent post, a Sony America developer has confirmed that company is open to the idea, and it would be mad to turn it out down, as the Vita will need every revenue stream it can get in a highly competitive market.

Sure, free-to-play has made a fortune for Zynga and a few other players but with endless games on Facebook and the Apple store, Sony could gain an edge by just having a few games running on Vita in each genre to prevent dilution and to encourage developer loyalty.

A few RPGs, farm-type, Sims-style and war games would neatly enable PS Vita  buyers to play games without paying a bean up front, and be a great marketing ploy for Sony, "Comes with 10 Free* Games!" should help sell a few, then they can get into regular games later on. We'll ignore the little asterisk for now!

Of the many free-to-play games out there, what would you like to see on PS Vita? let us know.
