July Update: PlayStation 6 and PlayStation Portable future visions

The recent PlayStation video about the "simulated" technology in development, discussed between AMD and Sony engineers that will power the PlayStation 6 was interesting from a geek point of view. But from a gameplay perspective, there is - IMO - no need for a PlayStation 6 for another few years. Especially with the limp Xbox is-it-isn't-it launch .  July 2026 Update : Sony managed a cannon-fire sized self-inflicted injury by announcing the end of physical releases across the end of the PS5 era and the launch of the PS6. Due to lack of sales (only 7 titles have passed the 100,000 mark in the last year) and economics, it still doesn't matter to PlayStation owners, collectors are stores, who can now only sell digital codes in a box.  June 2026 Update : The latest snippet of gossip for Sony's next-gen systems is a modular/external drive that will connect to both devices. Allowing installation on the portable of physical games, and reducing the cost of the PS6 by ma...

Evercade Nexus revealed, a modern retro twist

After the tease a week ago, Blaze is pretty quick out of the blocks with its latest Evercade reveal. And the new Nexus device is an ultra-modern looking new unit with a near-6-inch brighter screen, dual-sticks and wireless headphone support.

Update: Enjoy a new video, as Evercade shows off more of the Nexus and its luscious big screen...

Pre-orders on Amazon up here.

The stylish design is way more modern than the retro-vibe the Evercade brand has stuck with, so is it trying to compete more with the Android crowd or attract younger gamers? Guess we'll find out if there are any UI/library changes and other features en route.

No words on the innards (apart from WiFi 6 support), but the cooling vents on the back suggest something more sturdy. Also, no news on future releases that will benefit from the dual sticks, but that made sense given the reveal of the wireless pad a few weeks back.

Share and play gaming is offered by EverSync. This feature enables local multiplayer game support wirelessly between two Nexus handhelds with only one cart (didn't the Atari Lynx do something similar?).

One neat trick is you can change the light-up LED logo to any colour you like, or off hopefully.

The new device will hit stores in October (that's my birthday sorted) for £169 or equivalent (assuming memory prices don't soar further). With a LE N64 limited edition (2,000 units) for collectors at £189, shipping with the Banjo-Kazooie Double Pack cart and other goodies.

Pre-orders go live on April the 1st, no joke.

Currently playing on my Vita/PS3/PS4/PS5
