Republic of Pirates will hopefully remember Ham Night!

As a Sid Meier's Pirates (PSP) fan who still loves a jaunt around the Caribbean, its sad to see modern pirating games get too deep, too dull or lose their spirit in a raft of menus and minutiae of decision  making.

Hopefully Crazy Goat Games' Republic of Pirates will do better, coming to PlayStation 5 with a physical release at the end of the year thanks to PQube. Then again, when the first screenshot of the press release is a farm, I'm not so sure. I want pillaging, not running a pickle farm!

Republic of Pirates promises the usual fleet building, sea battles, city building (did any real pirates build whole cities?) and settlement management, hopefully there's a light or casual mode where we can go full-cannon-bore rampaging around the glistening seas.

With Crazy Goat's latest game being the similarly-engine-powered Worshippers Of Cthulhu, I hope their Polish sense of humour shines through. If not, Pirates has been positively received on PC, so there's a decent game in there, even when the sails are looped to the halyard.

Look out for Republic of Pirates later this year on console, or grab it now on Steam for around £20!

Currently playing on my Vita/PS3/PS4/PS5
