Hot on the heels of a clamshell Game Boy Advance SP-style model, Anbernic keeps churning out the gaming gadgets. And this one has a familiar look and feel to it for PSP owners. The RG Slide's neat feature is the sliding mechanism putting the 4.7" LTPS 1280×960 multi-touch 120hz screen up-front for enjoying video content or playing mobile games.
Update: Western pre-orders now live for £194...
Whatever the power inside, gadgets such as the RG Slide are way more interesting than the likes of the endless Ayaneo Gen 3 and other over-powered, over-priced systems.
Update|: A new promo video shows off the internals including a Tiger T820 (6nm), Quad-core Mali-G57 850MHz GPU with 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and 128Gb of storage. There's also active cooling, HD-out, wireless screen mirroring and Bluetooth for alternate controllers and audio.
Slide up the panel and there's a neat reveal with nested dual sticks, a traditional directional control and four buttons, with triggers on the rear. Check out the video for a glimpse of the RG Slide in action. Overall, I get the vibe of a collapsible PC Engine TurboExpress GT portable with its chunky looks. Or its true progenitor, Sony's Xperia Play.
The 4:3 ratio screen and chunky internals powered by Android 13 are ideal for pixel-perfect PS2 (making it a PS2 Go?), Wii, N64 emulation and enjoy classic arcade games. But we'll have to wait to see how good it looks and plays in our hands for motion quality and tactile sharpness.
No price or release date yet, but shouldn't be too long given the speed of Anbernic's production line, and it will be available in black or white.
