Amazon Luna crosses the gaming streams

While looking around the gaming services (anyone remember Gaikai?), I realised Amazon Luna from Twitch and Amazon is still a thing. Luna offers cloud streaming for those perhaps non-core gamers, or those who need greater portability? A recent deal with EA suggests they are still pushing the service too.

A free trial ala Netflix lures players in with the latest games like Assassin's Creed Shadows, Kingdom Come II Deliverance and more. Add in a huge-and-growing library of indies and classics all available to play on pretty much any device through the rather smart Luna Controller (but you can use pretty much any PlayStation or other controller).

That's all good stuff for £8.99 with extra subs for the likes of Ubisoft's range, making it just like Amazon's video service, but for games, with no need to splash out on hardware, worry about keeping game cases clean, etc.

Sure, you never own any of these games, and you need to keep up subscribing to play, but in a few years that's probably going to be the norm for all systems. And you can play them on the go on iPads, smartphones, smart TVs and Amazon devices, pretty much anywhere, and highly portable.

Check out the Luna blog to see the stream of games that keep coming, free for Prime subscribers (STAR WARS Jedi: Fallen Order in May, among others), and given Amazon has endless budget, Luna could easily pick up casual gamers and convert them into more serious competitors as households add Luna among their other Amazonian product.

Currently playing on my Vita/PS3/PS4/PS5
