New Mega Drive Shoot ‘Em Up Earthion also coming to modern consoles

I've been following Earthion's development on Twitter and its impossible not to be excited about a Mega Drive/Genesis shmup clicking into the console's cartridge slot in 2025. Now the official site is live and Limited Run games are on the physical release including modern consoles and Steam. 

UPDATE: Earthion now has 31st July release date (except for the Mega Drive version which has dropped in to 2026). There's a bunch of impressive physical options for Japan via SuperDeluxe Games, while Limited Run will handle an official western release. A highlight is the 8BitDo M30 controller for the really committed. 

Created by Japanese developer Ancient Corporation, studio of the legendary video game composer Yuzo Koshiro (Streets of Rage, ActRaiser), Earthion is a space-themed 2D side scrolling shooter that sees players guide space fighter pilot Azusa Takahashi through eight chaotic levels, each with their own unique environments, enemies, and screen-filling boss fights.

Earthion has been developed to run natively on SEGA Genesis & Mega Drive, pushing the original 16-bit hardware to its absolute limit, and includes Yuzo Koshiro's original soundtrack. 

Earthion features 27 original tracks, alongside an incredible soundscape of effects to transport players back to a golden age of retro gaming. Highly customisable scanline configurations allow players to get an authentic retro experience on modern displays.

Earthion was created by an all-star team including Makoto Wada (Gotta Protectors, Royal Anapoko Academy) and Yuzo Koshiro (Streets of Rage, ActRaiser). Japanese artist Mitsuhiro Arita, best known for his work illustrating Marvel Comics and the Pokémon Trading Card Game, also lent his hand to two stunning key art pieces for Earthion.
